Cedar Valley

Area description

Cedar Valley is a residential district along the steep Cedar Street hill, cresting at Dewdney Trunk Road.   It is not known to have ever been an area of Indigenous habitation, nor would this have been likely, since it is so far from the Fraser River. The early settlers who cultivated the land were farmers and fruit-growers, but today it is a rapidly changing community.  Since the beginning of the 21st century, when the Cedar Connector was in its early stages, Cedar Street has developed into a major transportation route, vibrating with busy traffic.  The large rural homesteads are now being broken up and replaced with uniform rows of townhouses. A few churches have moved on to these more spacious acreages also.  Cedar Valley has never had its own post office, and as yet has no commercial centre, though the population has grown in recent times.  Today’s community includes a large number of Indo-Canadian families.
